This trip was a last minute registration since we discovered all the MN state parks within our preferred distance (2-3 hours) were booked! So we found this little campground online with rave reviews. It houses about 40 seasonal and non seasonal sites. Not knowing what we were walking into, we have a few pros and cons we left with.

Pros:

Family friendly. It’s got a great park in the middle of the campground that the kids loved. It was nice, easy and safe enough to just let the kids run to the park and play if they wanted anytime. They made fast friends with other kids.

Beach area. It had a decent enough beach area. Nothing to write home about, but enough of a beach to make the kids happy and give the adults a place of rest.

Bar. (See also cons for this reason). Such a great people watching experience.

Cons:

Sites too close together. We love us some trees and nature. So when we found out we had only a few feet separating us from our neighbors on each side, it was a bit of a turn off. An introverts nightmare. Plus not a lot of trees, meant we couldn't hang our hammock.

Bar: People. Noise. The morning after episodes in the restrooms. Just no.

No hikes out of the park. We love when parks have hikes that come right out from the campground—this just makes life a bit easier with kids! We drove into Spooner—about 20 minutes away—for our 2 mike hike.

Overall, we might visit again--but instead of surrounding ourselves with strangers, we'd much rather have some friends or family join us.

We really loved to explore and adventure around a new town. We enjoyed hiking, walking around our beloved Hayward, golfing at the driving range, canoeing down the Namekagon River, playing at the beach and taking it slow and easy around camp. We cooked some delicious meals and sacrificed our blood for this seasons mosquitoes!

It truly felt like the kick off to summer and leaves us aching for some more outdoor adventures! Luckily we only need to wait two more weeks!

Here’s a fun video to recap our trip!

Be sure you check out our hiking and food pages for suggestions on some camp meals and recipes as well as where we hiked in the area!
